NSW Inter Schools Badminton Tournament Rules and Schedule

Tournament Date:  

This team tournament will be held on 29 January 2023, 8:30am Registration. Any State team or above players are not eligible to contest this time. Team Supervisors receive T shirt upon registration, Each player on court should wear school sports uniform and name wristband. Group photos per division and volunteers. Quarter final teams collect T shirts at 12:30pm. Matches will kick off from 9:00am sharp on 24 courts. Quarter final commerce from 12:30pm. Award presentation starts at 2:45pm. Schedule might vary onsite.

Alpha Badminton Centre, 46 Egerton Street, Silverwater

Primary and Secondary divisions

Timeslots:

All round matches are to be completed within 45 minutes.

Registrations:

Each team must have a minimum of 4 players with at least one girl. At least one female player should play every round.

Competition Rules and Code of Conduct:

It is the responsibility of each team supervisor to ensure that all players are familiar with the competition rules and relevant code of conduct.

Competition Structure:  

All matches will be played in a one-set. Each game will be decided by the first team to reach 25 points.  There is no tie-break system. The team with the highest number of games won will rank highest. If the highest number of games won is equal, the team scoring the higher number of points will be ranked first.

Match Structure:

Teams will contest a series of 3 games: One Single and Two Doubles. In the 45 minutes timeslot, one Single, Double 1 and Double 2 games need to be completed. 

Players can play in any game regardless of gender. Only one player is allowed to play in Single and Double matches in a round. The player list should be decided beforehand, players will not be allowed to switch once the match begins.

Player Availability:

It shall be the responsibility of each player/team to be in position on court at the scheduled time.

Injuries:

In the event of any injury or open wound/bleeding, the match shall be halted while the injury is tended. Another game can start first if the treatment is beyond 5 minutes. If the player is deemed unfit to continue or the injury is not treatable in the allocated time, the game will be declared an incomplete game.  The team with injured player is awarded with the points before the treatment, while another team is 25 points.

Unsporting conduct:

Any behaviour or action that is deemed unsporting or not in the spirit of competition will be not acceptable. The involved party might risk being asked to leave.

Required Equipment:

All players must wear non-marking shoes. Failure to do so shall deem the player ineligible to take the court. All players must wear school uniform, as outlined by their individual schools.

Group Stage

Four teams in each group will play each other in a round robin system. Each round (three matches) needs to be finished in 45 minutes (if games cannot be completed during this time limit, the points scored at the time will be taken). The winners of each group will directly qualify for the quarter finals.
