14 to 19 July Hong Kong Camp

Epping West Chinese School recently participated in an international camp where 11 students and 2 teachers visited Hong Kong. The camp provided an opportunity for us to see the bonds formed amongst teachers and students, with various cultural backgrounds, including Australian, American, New Zealand (Kiwi), local South Asian and South Korean students, as well as Chinese from all regions.

Students were sectioned into groups and began an enriching program including a competition to make clothing items out of recycled materials, Māori crafting, leadership activities, scouting first aid, as well as physical activities such as archery, rock climbing, cycling, and trampolining.

We are thankful to Merciful God for providing us with perfect, sunny weather and great, blue skies during the typhoon season that allowed us to enjoy our time to its full potential.

We explored the Hong Kong Science Museum, the Avenue of Stars, and gazed upon the beautiful harbour scenery over Victoria Peak. We were given the opportunity to visit the prestigious Hong Kong University, which was incredible, regardless of the prior shower we experienced at the International Convention and Exhibition Centre. The rain offered us interesting circumstances at the Disneyland Theme Park, but we were all able to enjoy certain rides and stores.

We explored the Harbour City, the largest and most diverse shopping mall in Hong Kong which was an eye-opening experience for teachers and students alike, specifically the observatory deck. We were all fortunate to return to Sydney, fit and healthy, despite the worldwide Blue Screen of Death.

Student teams were able to further develop their bond by working together at the Inter Schools Badminton Tournament on July 21, and the Chinese Eisteddfod on July 26.

We look forward to introducing upcoming camps with you shortly.
