2023 Term 4 Newsletter

As the year is rapidly wrapping up, and the busyness of daily life is starting to ease for many of us. Whether or not you received an award, we hope you take a moment to feel proud of everything you have accomplished and look ahead to next year.

This issue not only shares the excited presentation moment, but also recognizes the great contribution made by our teachers and parents, for which we are most appreciative.

Congratulations must go out to all those students who have had individual successes during the year.  This extends from students who achieved Awards, to those who have at high levels in various competitions or had a role in the band or school performance, to individual accomplishments in the HSK exam, in the Opportunity Class and selective examination.  These individual and collective results were once again a result of their consistent effort and commitment of students, teachers, parents, and the peer group. I am glad to see our teachers and parents actively volunteered in P & C activities too.

At times it may feel like the school days are long, but our students extended the school hours on Chinese learning journey. There has been tiredness and frustration in every lesson, even in the times when it seems hard leading some tears while writing those sophisticated characters.  I was so impressed with their resilience and positive attitude throughout. Thank you to every family who has been behind the scenes, supporting their child/ren along the way.

It has been a busy year as always. It is a privilege to share the excitement together with students who demonstrated their growth and maturity. Highlights included:

  • Co-ordinated and led our students to compete at NSW Inter School Badminton Tournament, we are proud to top the player numbers under primary category and our student was in the winner team.
  • Performed in the Eastwood Chinese New Year Celebration as a silver sponsor. Our students showcased their dance, instrument playing and singing skills.
  • Sat Level 2 to Level 5 in Chinese Proficiency Test with 85% passed rate.
  • Performed in the NSW Federation of the Community Language Schools Inc.’s 2023 Inaugural Community Language Schools Spectacular.
  • Individual Awarded by NSW Federation of Community Language Schools Great Artwork Award with the theme “My Community’s Celebration.
  • Competed 2023 GO NSW Championships, 2023 Korean Ambassador’s Cup, Sydney GO Festival
  • Group and Individual Awarded from 2023 National Chinese Eisteddfods
  • Individual competed at Australia School Championship Judo Competition and QLD International Jodo Open Competition
  • Celebrated Sydney Chinese Day Festival

A second highlights would certainly have been seeing us on training and conference:

  • Three teachers completed and passed the 2023 Foundation Program in Community Languages
  • Attended 2023 Annual Community Language School Conference
  • Attended Department of Education Community Language School Mini Conference
  • Attended Chinese Language Teaching Association NSW New Syllabus workshop.
  • Visited National Taiwan Normal University Mandarin Training Centre and Taipei Kang Chiao International School Linkou Campus

We continue to accept Epping West Public School junior alumni to build up working experience for Duke of Edinburgh Competition and Department of Education Volunteering Awards.

We returned to Community by joining Multicultural NSW Regional Engagement Program.

Overall, many students have been working hard through the year and demonstrated their commitment with the attendance. I continue to be very proud of their achievements, both inside the classroom and out.

Farewell and thank you to our teachers and families who will not be returning in 2024. All the best and sincerely thank them for everything they have contributed to making our school so wonderful.

Once again, I would like to take this opportunity to thank every teacher for their exceptional dedication and every parent for your incredible support.  I wish you a Merry Christmas, may you be safe, healthy and have a wonderful time over the holiday season. See you back to school on Thursday 1 February 2024.
